From Inspiration4 towards Axiom Mission 1. The private business masters the ISS. The note.
Space exploration has been the business of large states - of large state organizations - for a significant historical period.
However, the times are changing. A private business is becoming more and more actively involved in space exploration.
For example, The Axiom Space is considering the creation of a private space station.
To creation of a new station, it"s possible to go (to step after step) through the addition of the ISS with a "private" modules.
The first fully private space mission - Inspiration4 (September 16-18, 2021) - was completed successfully. The crew of this mission performed a space flight, but they did not visit the ISS.
Now an attempt to take the next step is planned.
According to the plans, a private crew will visit the ISS. The private space mission, dubbed Axiom Mission 1 or Ax-1, will launch - according to plans - on March 30, 2022. The astronauts will fly on the space Crew Dragon Endeavour using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The participants of Ax-1, accordind plans, will stay at the station for 10 days, after which they will return to Earth.
"The goal of the Ax-1 crew is to set the standard for all future private astronaut missions in terms of our training and professionalism," the mission participant, the spacecraft commander, astronaut Lopez-Alegria said. Michael López-Alegría (born May 30, 1958) is a former NASA astronaut and vice president of Axiom Space. Michael López-Alegría is an astronaut and test pilot; a veteran of three Space Shuttle missions and one International Space Station mission. He is known for having performed ten spacewalks so far in his career.
Also, the crew members are:
Larry Connor (born 1950) is an American real estate and technology entrepreneur. Connor is a private pilot involved in multiple aerobatic competitions.
Mark Pathy (born July 1969) is a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. (According to some reports, He is paying $55 million USD for the trip).
Eytan Meir Stibbe (born July 1958) is an Israeli former fighter and businessman. He became one of the few pilots of the Israeli Air Force who shot down (June 11, 1982) four enemy aircraft during a single sortie. He received the rank of colonel. On behalf of the Ramon Foundation, Eytan Stibbe will become the second Israeli in space. According to the plans, the bulk of his time during this mission will be dedicated to conducting educational experiments.
The private crew was trained at the facilities of NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), and other organizations.
Thus, the role of private business in space exploration is becoming more and more noticeable.
